How to Prep Your Little One for a Photoshoot
Family photoshoots can be A LOT!! The mom spends hours getting her hair, makeup, and outfit just perfect and the dad takes hours getting mentally prepared for what he is about to endure. But, what about the children? They need some prep work too to get ready for the photoshoot and it goes beyond finding the perfect coordinating outfit. I’ve put together a list of things to make sure you do to prep your little one for their moment behind the camera.
NAPS!!
Naps are soooo important for a child!!! If you know you have a photoshoot planned for the day, try not to let the kids skip nap time!
FULLY BELLY
Make sure your little one has eaten! Hangry is a real thing and we all know it can ruin any moment.
EXTRA CLOTHES
Pack some extra clothes. You never know if your child is going to have a messy moment and need a change out outfits. Make sure that the clothes you pack coordinates with your families colors for the photoshoot, just in case!
4. TOYS / ATTENTION GETTERS
Some times the little ones are hard to get them looking in the right direction. A fun toy can always go a long way when trying to get them to look. Musical toys usually work best!
5. BRIBERY (if they are older)
Promising your child some treat at the end of the photoshoot can go a long way!! If you know your child loves ice-cream or a special toy, try encouraging them to behave so they can get it!
6. STAY CALM
Children pick up on your mood. If you’re stressed out, then they will be stressed out too. So, I encourage you to stay as calm as possible! Even if the photoshoot is not going as you expected, I will still do everything in my power to get wonderful photos for you. If need be, they can all be fun candids of your child running around.
7. TALK TO YOUR CHILD ABOUT HOW IMPORTANT THIS IS TO YOU (if they are older)
Children like to make their parents proud and happy! If your child is old enough to understand, tell them how important this photoshoot is to you and how you want them to act during it.
