Spring Hill College Surprise Proposal | Brittany + John Mark
Surprise proposal
Surprise proposal sessions are some of my favorites to photograph! Typically, the girl will reach out to me to plan a photo shoot with the love of her life. She just wants to capture the love they have for one another on camera. Her man, he has other plans!! The groom-to-be has secretly been planning how and when he is going to ask his lady to be his wife. It is such an exciting and nerve-racking time for the man and I love being in on the secret the whole time.
A surprise proposal photoshoot is actually how my husband asked me to marry him which may add to some of my love for these photoshoots!! We were taking a family trip to New York and being the photographer that I am, I just HAD to have our portraits taken as a couple while we were there. Photos are a great way to commemorate a time and place in your life. My husband had me fully convinced that he would NOT be proposing in New York!! Right at the end of our photo shoot, he popped the question and I could not have been more thrilled!! Having a photographer there with us to capture this huge moment in our lives meant so much to me! I cherish our pictures and love to look at them almost daily!
Brittany and John Mark had a similar story. Brittany hired me to take pictures of her and her boyfriend because I was running a great deal on mini sessions for the summer. The moment after Brittany told John Mark, he messaged me letting me know he was going to propose. He was so excited and I helped him plan the perfect way to propose without her having a clue it was about to happen. The men are typically worried that their girlfriend is expecting the moment and they want it to be a complete surprise. To help John Mark completely surprise Brittany we came up with a plan. I met up with John Mark’s parents prior to the photo shoot and they gave me the ring. It was nerve-racking being in charge of such a huge detail of the day, but we all got to the photoshoot safely! John Mark really wanted to propose under the beautiful oak avenue. So when we headed over that way during the photo shoot, I told the couple that I had a challenge for both of them during the photo shoot and that I would need to tell them each secretly what their challenge was.
So, I pulled Brittany to the side and told her that she was challenged with making John Mark laugh. I wanted her to run up behind him at some point during the photoshoot and tickle him. John Mark’s challenge was obviously to propose!! When I pulled him over to tell him his task, I passed him off the ring so he would be prepared. Immediately John Mark went back to his lady with a huge grin on his face and he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. It caught Brittany off guard and was so special for them both! I’m so honored that I got to be there with them to capture their big life-changing moment on camera.
