Why Take Bridal Portraits?

History Museum of Mobile Bridal Portrait Session

The History Museum of Mobile is a beautiful little spot in Downtown Mobile that is perfect for a few bridal portraits. The grand staircase gives off a regal vibe that complements a wedding dress perfectly! I love that Emily decided to move her bridal session to inside the History Museum.

A common question I get asked is, why have a bridal portrait session? Here’s my thoughts on it:

First of all, what is a bridal portrait session?

Bridal portraits are the bride all dolled up in her wedding dress taken a couple months before the wedding date. They can be taken at the venue the wedding will be taking place or they can really be taken anywhere! There are so many beautiful inside and outside locations in Alabama that allow photoshoots. Shooting at your wedding venue will keep the same vibe as your wedding day photos, but shooting in a different location can give you a fun, different background and vibe. Really, you can’t go wrong either way!

Now why would you want bridal portraits?

Having bridals done before the wedding allows for more time to be focused on other photos on the big day (like you with your girls and new husband). Time can be budgeted to allow these pictures to be taken on the wedding day, but they will be taken in a shorter amount of time and could feel rushed. No one wants to feel stressed or rushed not their wedding day!

Secondly, a popular tradition in the South, is to have a portrait of the bride displayed at the welcome table next to the guest book. If that is a tradition in your family, then you will definitely need to book bridal portraits to have an image to display!

Lastly, it gives the bride a chance to do a trial run on how she thinks she’ll want her hair and makeup to look on the wedding day. Getting to see yourself all dressed up in advance may help some feel more at ease about the wedding day and can solidify the decisions about their dress, hair, makeup, and flowers. Plus, why wouldn’t you want the opportunity to wear your dress twice?!
